I grew up on Fair Isle, one of the Shetland Islands. I studied at the Newark School of Violin Making, and set up a workshop on Fair Isle in 1991. I have recently moved to mainland Shetland. My instruments are based on traditional Italian and English models, and have found their way all over the British Isles. My work spans both the classical and folk music tradition: I have a couple of instruments at Cheetham's School of Music, two violins with the Mendelson on Mull Trust and amongst others, three or four fiddlers in the traditional group, Fiddler's Bid use my instruments.
